RESPONSIBILITY
At Camp, we build responsibility into everything we do. It might be as simple as being charged with keeping your personal space clean and organized or setting the table for a meal. Later, campers might be responsible for taking care of others while sailing, canoeing, or cooking on the trail. These may seem like small tasks, but for many children, this is the first time their peers are counting on them and they learn how to all work together for a common goal.
SELF-CONFIDENCE
Self-Confidence, built through experience, is what Camp is all about. From an outside perspective, the activities at Hayo-Went-Ha Camps might seem like just a bunch of fun activities, but there is a more intentional purpose. Our range of activities ensures that each camper will have chances to shine and times when they need to challenge themselves. With each small victory, campers build self-confidence that lasts long after they leave. It is not unusual for parents to call or write weeks after camp to let us know their son or daughter seems different. They seem to stand a bit taller and seem willing to take on situations that they may have shied away from in the past.
INDEPENDENCE
Self-Resilience is another essential aspect of the Hayo-Went-Ha Camps programs. While we have designed many of our camp activities with an eye to group cooperation and inclusion, we also endeavor to teach campers skills to help them be more independent. Many of our past campers will tell you they learned to read a map, sail, canoe, camp, and pick a campsite at Hayo-Went-Ha Camps. In addition, campers learn valuable skills to formulate and complete goals, resolve conflict, and define and recognize their success.
EXPLORATION
One of the most critical aspects of Hayo-Went-Ha Camps is exploration. The unique environment of camp life encourages children of all ages to try new approaches to people and situations. It is the ideal place to learn about other people while learning about yourself.
