EXPLORER PROGRAM

As Explorers, campers embark on a fourteen-day canoeing adventure in Killarney Provincial Park, deep in the Canadian wilderness just south of Sudbury, Ontario.  The remote nature of the park provides beautiful scenery of tall pines and clear lakes as these campers learn about true wilderness expeditionary travel.  These young campers will travel by canoe through lakes and rivers, and portage their boats on foot from lake to lake seeing waterfalls and other natural areas along the way.  The group will start and finish their adventure at Widgewa Lodge on the western edge of the park and travel through chains of interconnected lakes and rivers, portaging where necessary and camping on rocky granite shorelines.  This trip will challenge campers as they learn new backcountry skills and come together as a functioning team.  A few highlights of the experience include a hike up to Silver Peak to enjoy spectacular 360° views of the park, and a dip in crystal clear Lake Topaz after a long portage.  The first week of camp will include a canoe orientation and training with our canoe expert.  While in camp, the campers will get to participate in all of the fun on-site challenges and activities offered.
