The Hayo-Went-Ha Camps Experience

go Further than you thought possible

A Hayo-Went-Ha Camps summer is the beginning of a lifetime adventure. By facing authentic challenges in a safe environment, campers learn that they are capable of more than they imagined.

At camp, we go together. Hayo-Went-Ha Camps was founded on the principle that relationships formed in challenge last a lifetime.

At camp and in life, Hayo-Went-Ha Campers go further.

discover your place in the world

Experiences of challenge, tackled as a team, help us to understand how we relate to others. Campers, along with their counselors and leaders, have the opportunity to learn and practice empathy. Together, we address conflicts, celebrate victories, and discover what it means to genuinely care for people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Find True connection

Camp is a necessary opportunity to disconnect from the constant, shallow connections offered by smartphones and social media. At Hayo-Went-Ha Camps, campers will practice face-to-face interaction, build empathy, and connect across differences.

Extended time away from the small screen can help young people find balance and a healthier relationship with technology when they return home.

Become your best self

When campers arrive at our Torch Lake or Arbutus Lakes sites, they get to step outside the box created by the expectations of home and school. Having new experiences and learning new skills is also a chance to try new ways of relating to people and understanding themselves.

In overcoming adversity, connecting with cabin mates and counselors, and exploring the natural world around them, campers discover who they are becoming.

Single gender camping

At Torch Lake, boys are guided by trained male counselors who encourage them to embrace silliness and creativity without social pressure.

At Arbutus Lake, female counselors create a supportive environment for girls, promoting healthy development away from social media influences and superficial identities.

At Hayo-Went-Ha Camps every camper is free to become their best self.

Wilderness Expeditions

Hayo-Went-Ha Camps focus on wilderness adventure trips in our summer programs. Camping teaches lifelong skills and values while creating a deep connection to nature. It also brings cabin groups together, fostering strong friendships through shared challenges.

We tailor our trips to be appropriately challenging for each age group, incorporating physical, technical, and intellectual elements. Often, the most memorable experiences arise from facing significant challenges as a team.

multi-Week programs

Kids' schedules are busier than ever, making it tough to find time for summer camps. Hayo-Went-Ha Camps believes in the benefits of extended stays, offering four-week programs as campers advance in grade level. This longer duration fosters deeper friendships and allows for more challenging adventures. Our two-week programs are ideal for younger campers, providing ample time to explore activities and enjoy a short wilderness trip.

Unplugged

Today, we are more connected than ever, with phones and computers as extensions of ourselves. Constant emails and notifications create pressure to respond instantly. At Hayo-Went-Ha Camps, kids can unplug and reconnect with the real world. Many campers, even those hesitant to disconnect, say the absence of phones is a highlight, enjoying nature, campfire songs, moonlit chats, and the chance to sit with their thoughts
