Joshua first came to Hayo-Went-Ha on Torch Lake as a camper in 6th grade through Gaylord Community Schools. Since then, he has consistently found his way back to camp as a summer staffer, including this past summer, where he served as a counselor in our Alaska program and as the Division Leader for our youngest overnight campers in the Pioneer Division.
He is once again joining us from Gaylord Community Schools, transitioning from his role as an Early Intervention Instructional Assistant to embark on the adventure of year-round Outdoor Education. As Assistant Director, he will focus on program development and support our efforts to recruit campers and staff for our summer programs.
From the moment I first met Josh in person at staff training this year, I have been impressed by his natural ability to foster a welcoming culture for both staff and campers. I’m excited to have him on staff to help us build our summer team, grow our programs, and welcome campers to YMCA Hayo-Went-Ha Camps!
Joshua will start at Torch Lake on January 6 alongside Camp Arbutus’ New Director Mackenzie Morison.
The State YMCA of Michigan operates YMCA Hayo-Went-Ha Camps through its two sites, Arbutus Lake (for Girls) and Torch Lake (for Boys). We inspire and empower campers through transformative wilderness experiences. Through dynamic programming at camp and powerful experiences on expeditions, campers learn empathy and discover their place in the world.
