Why Hayo-Went-Ha Camps

YMCA Hayo-Went-Ha Camps creates unforgettable summer camp experiences for boys and girls in beautiful northern Michigan. For over 100 years, campers and staff from around the world have gathered together at these idyllic locations, building a sense of community anchored in the traditions of the thousands of campers who came before them. “Each for all, all for each” is our camp’s rallying cry and motto as we seek to lift one another to new heights of personal and collective accomplishment. Our campers experience incredible growth and personal transformation through our unique blend of traditional in-camp activities and wilderness adventure trips. Join us this summer and become part of something bigger than yourself!

Mission

The Mission of YMCA Hayo-Went-Ha Camps is to inspire youth from all walks of life through outdoor adventure. Our programs develop important life skills, self-confidence, and an enduring commitment to others, as expressed in our motto: Each for All, All for Each.

Our vision is a world where youth are empowered, confident, and connected to each other and the natural world.

Focus Areas

  • Youth Development: Empowering young people to reach their full potential.
  • Healthy Living: Improving individual and community well-being.
  • Social Responsibility: Providing support and inspiring action in our communities.

Former longtime Hayo-Went-Ha Director Pat Rode once summed it up: “What is it that makes Hayo-Went-Ha Camps so special? Life slows down! One has time to simply “hang out” and talk with peers about life and its lessons in places of unparalleled beauty and to develop relationships that become lifelong friendships…There are people I haven’t seen in years and probably will never see again as age and distance impede, but they call, write, and email, sharing pictures of their families and lives. What causes these things? It is the culture of these camps, based on love, acceptance, shared opportunities, friendship, and challenges.”
